A new survey of 2,000 adults, carried out by Direct Line, indicates that many workers will prefer to continue working from home when the COVID-19 crisis ends. More than 2 in 5 people are set to ask their employer for permanent flexible working arrangements after our current restrictions are lifted. With 1 in 12 people surveyed planning to ask their employer if they can work from home permanently. With this in mind, it’s clear that home working is set to become much more popular with employers, helping to reduce all important overheads, while keeping staff content.
As we think we know a thing or two about property, interior design and what makes a great house a home, we have put together a short guide to help you create or refine your home office space.
Identify the best place for your office, somewhere you can get into the zone of work without distractions like your children, television, etc. If you have a rarely-used guest room or a space in your home that you seldom use, these are both great options. If you don’t have a spare room, why not look into building an office in your back garden instead? Sheds and shipping containers are spacious enough to house an office without taking up too much garden space. You could also look to spend a little more money to create a stunning outbuilding.
When working from home, it’s so important that you create a clear distinction between home and work life. If you’re working sprawled out on the sofa or lying in bed, the chances are you won’t feel hugely productive...! By creating a dedicated office environment, you’ll retain your usual professional and productive attitude.
